Introduction

Catch reports for each year:-

February:

Coarse Fishing:

Nick with one of his many Carp caught using simple gear and floating bread or small plain dog biscuit Now that the snow and ice have gone does not appear to have slowed the fishing, although the weather is cool it is not cold.

Fishing in the deep water House pool had been slow for the main part of the month with Mainly Roach and smaller Carp coming out. Whereas in the Main Lake plenty of quality Roach coming out as well as Carp mainly around the 2-4lb mark with the occasional larger fish. Towards the middle of the month fishing dramatically improved.

On the warmer days Carp were topping and were being caught in the afternoons on floating bread and other floating bait’s. Best fish so far this month has been a lovely 12lb Common caught by local Angler “Robin” of Newcastle Emlyn in the Main Pool using a floating bait. Robin (shown above) with an 8lb 3oz Mirror from the House pool. Another local &ldquot;lad” Eddie Clapperton of Llandysul, while also fishing the House pool towards the month end using bread along with a hemp mixed ground bait had a good mixed bag, that included some great Roach, several Bream with the biggest around the 2-2 1/2lb mark and the first Tench of the year. The biggest estimated at 2lb+ he also had numerous mid-sized Carp.

Trout Fishing:

Most fish have come from Weir with the occasional fish from Pallen and Derwen. All fish have been caught on wet flies, mainly gold heads. Most anglers have been fishing with Fritz’s, Montanas, Bloodworm and all going home with their limit’s intact. Best fish has been 4lb Rainbow with plenty around 2 1/2lb. Only the occasional Blue has been landed. Towards month-end what looks like very early March Brown flies have been seen with the occasional Trout topping. Prospects for the coming months are good.

April:

Coarse Fishing:

just a quick e-mail to let you know about my best day yet at nineoaks, and managed to catch 26 carp in total on monday 19th, from the helicopter pad and stalking in the margins, nothing under 3lb and five of them were into double figures! - the best being a common of 15lb 2oz (new p.b) which took about ten to fifteen mins. to land on light tackle- a stunning fish - sorry no picture! All the fish were a picture of health and fighting fit.

hope this is of some help in compiling your recent catches section on your website.

Cheers Nick.

A Winter Picture showing the snow covering of the Main Lake A winter picture showing the snow covered entrance sign

Following the heavy snow and frozen lakes, except for the very hardy angler very few have ventured out. Most small Carp and decent Roach have come from the Novices Pool, mainly of float fished sweetcorn.

All other lakes are covered in thick ice.

Roll on spring and warmer weather!
