Current Fishing - 10th OctoberThe best fish of the past week has definitely been Clive Erret's 3lb 1oz Roach hybrid. Caught on 2 white maggots using his top-2 pole kit from the promontory in the Main Lake.
Two days later Clive then lands this beautiful 13lb 14oz Grass Carp, caught on a single sweetcorn.
There I am telling everyone Trout fishing is a little slow, and along comes local angler, Mike Over of Aberystwyth, to prove everyone (i.e. me!) wrong. Confident as ever, fishing a 3 fist ticket he eventually tries a Bibio just under the surface and had another great day with us as he caught his 3 Trout with the best at 3.5lb. On his completed return he wrote "a great day - as always".
7th MayThe best fish during May was a 17lb Common caught by a visiting angler. A few days later a 14lb Common and a few around 8lb including an almost black common. There are plenty 3lb+ and over.
Many small Roach in the margins and plenty 6oz and over with quite a few pushing the lb mark. A few chub, the best around 2lb, the occasional bream and barbel too. Very few tench showing.
Fishing is generally slow in the mornings, especially with an eastern breeze, fishing just gets better as the afternoon progresses and better still through the evening. Sweetcorn catching but luncheon meat is the better bait. Surface fishing for carp in the afternoons with blue skies giving excellent sport.
